Stormy weather

Our sunny spell is gone and yesterday we got sideways rain and 30 knot winds. Today is the same - but mainly high wind, and is expected to continue until Wednesday. The seas are wild and big - even Sam isn't out surfing (he would get blown off the board).
Fine weather again later in the week. Mind you looking at the typhoons, flooding and hurricanes elsewhere we are pretty lucky really. The photos are from last week, some fun waves.

BIC Surfboards

This month we have received delivery of our BIC surfboards. The 8'4 Magnum is a great board to learn to surf, as it is stable, wide and really easy to catch waves with.

The 9'4 BIC Super Magnum is the big daddy of surfboards. If you are tall or a bit bigger this board really makes surfing easy. The 9'4 BIC Super Magnum is also a great stand up paddle board for experienced surfers to SUP, or for kids.

Low Season weather - August Sunshine

The weather has been amazing. We have lost count of how many days it was since it last rained. We are watering the garden constantly. It has been hot and sunny. The sea is very clear, and good enough to snorkel at the point. Koh Lanta Dive companies have been happy with great visibility and plenty of fish to see.
Last week there were perfect waves to learn to surf and over the weekend it is supposed to get a bit windier and the swell will increase., so here is hoping we get some good surf.

Windy weather & waves

The wind arrived yesterday. The forecast is for wind and messy seas (but bigger swell) for the next week, the rain will be localised showers, so one beach might be sunny and the other not. We can see a few storms passing us by.
This weather is great for experienced kiteboarders or windsurfers such as Matt from Ao Nang who got a good couple of hours.

The last two weeks have been great for learner surfers - with kids and adults from all corners of the world coming to learn in our warm fun waves.

Saving a turtle on Klong Dao

Today a large fishing net with a tangle of ropes washed up onto the beach. Caught inside was a small turtle. We managed to get it free and it was uninjured and still strong.

The resort staff had other ideas - saying they need it for good luck and a blessing - and the turtle was wisked away - half an hour later he was returned and they all prayed for good luck and then he was finally released - thankfully the talcum powder disappeared as it swam away.

Sunshine & small Surf

We have had perfect weather the last couple of days. A shower overnight cleared to a stunning day with not a breath of wind. There is a ground swell coming through so the waves are really nice. A good day to surf.
This weather is set to continue, with some more wind and bigger waves expected from Wednesday and a shower predicted, clearing again by the weekend (according to aonang weather).

beach clean & crab saving

We have had another overcast sort of week. The waves have dropped down and it is perfect flat water stand up paddle boarding.
Some school kids turned up on the beach on Thursday and did a bit of a clean up (every bit helps).

On Friday a fishing net washed up on the low tide. It must have been dragging  the bottom for a long time and had entangled hundreds of small crabs. With some help 3 of us managed to free 73 crabs - so they can live another day!
