High season is upon us, the weather has been mainly patchy blue skies, then high level cloud. Not rain but overcast - which is great because you are less likely to get sunburnt. By mid week it is expected that there may be some rain showers but clearing by Sunday. Also hopefully some wind for a bit of a windsurf.
Located on the paradise island of Koh Lanta in the Andaman Sea off Thailand we live and love all watersports. This page gives you up to date info on the conditions here - come and play.

Waves and sunshine
We have had some waves, Monday very early was great with 3-4 foot in the morning then 2 foot for most of the day, and lovely sunshine. Great to have a last surf before we really head into the high season of calm seas. The winds are now predominently offshore. Last week there was a big low on the east coast that gave us overcast skies and some drizzle. But now is looking clear and calm.

sunny and calm
The weather has been hot and perfect. Sunny skies have seen the temperatures get higher. There are been onshore but very light sea breezes for the last 4 days, this is supposed to change by Monday as there are stronger off shore winds forecast.

Lanta weather October
The last few days have definitely seen the change towards high season conditions. The wind has been swinging around and coming from NNW and in the evening last night we had spectacular lightning shows offshore. The sky is blue and ocean getting clearer and cleaner by the day as the swell drops and sand bottom settles. The forecast is for no swell and good weather all week. Enjoy

Here comes the sun
Looks like the rain has passed us and we are back to sunshine. The last few days we have had a SW swell which has ben great - the waves have more power in them, and Sam got barrelled for the first time in Thailand! He is stoked. The waves are small today but look to be picking up again over the weekend.

Monsoon season now
It seems that the monsoon season is coming on late and strong. 58 out of 77 provences of thailand have flooding, mainly in the North East - with rain from the typhoons that hit the Phillipines. Lanta has seen a few showers, mainly heavy overnight, then drizzle patches in the day. Overall we have been fortunate to miss most of the storms. It looks like the next week will have quiet a few showers again.
It is predicted that the winds will swing to the NE by mid October.

Monsoon everywhere
We are finally having a bit of a monsoon season. Not that it is really wanted. The rainy weather systems we are experiencing are from the tropical depressions coming across from the north. There is much flooding in the north and central Thailand, and we are getting the tail end of it. There has been quiet a bit of wind for the last few days and rain showers. This is expected to continue until at least Friday 30th. The waves are pretty messy with this wind. Hopefully they will clean up when it drops off later in the week.

Beach Garbage Thailand
In the low season trash washing up from the ocean is an ongoing problem, and how to deal with it is something that needs some innovative solutions. At Costa Lanta where we are located the resort cleans the beach on a daily basis. We at Koh Lanta Watersports help in this effort. We believe that if we take the trash out of the water then it is removed, and will not come back on the next tide.
It is unfortunate that other resort don't have this same thinking. In fact many resorts just rake the trash down to be taken with the next tide. It will not solve the problem. The municiple do not have the resources or funding to tackle the problem either. So it is up to tourists to insist their resort cleans their part of the beach and dispose of the garbage by taking it to the dump.
As a visitor consider:
What do the day trip boats do with their trash - do you really need a single use water cup?
Don't pick up shells
Reduce using single use plastic
Reuse what you can
Recycle - many local people make money from collecting recyclable plastics, help them out by recycling.
Please help to keep Lanta clean.

Sunny, hot, perfect
The weather has been hot and perfect. There is some wave swell on the increase from Thursday with what looks to be some good waves by Saturday and Sunday for surfing. This will bring with it some showers and rain, but not forecast to be heavy yet. At the moment the weather has been great for Stand Up Paddle boarding.

Swell on the increase
Last week was another blue sky week. No wind, or waves and sunshine. The forecast is changing though and it looks like the swell will pick up by the weekend, so hopefully we will get some good size surf! Got the boards ready!

Koh Lanta Weather August
We have been away to Australia and just returned to the island to find nice clear seas and blue sky. The Koh Lanta Surf is small but over the next few days it looks to be increasing. Perfect to learn at the moment with about 1-2 foot. There has been only small amounts of rain and only at night. There was one large storm at the start of the month with 100mm of rain - a good shower!

Rain and Sun and Surf Koh Lanta July
We have had many seasons in a day the past few days. Heavy rain overnight, then sun during the morning, then a heavy rain storm. In the afternoon it cleared to be glassy sea and a beautiful evening. The storms have been intense - amazing dark clouds coming in and dropping their load. Then gone within half an hour. Monsoon season is not so bad. There looks to be big waves by the weekend 30th July

There has also been a few rain showers. This is going to clear by the end of Wednesday, and the wind is also dropping. Looks like we will have some nice surf after that.

Windsurf or Kite board Koh Lanta this week
The wind over the next few days is going to be steady and strong so looks good for wind sports. There is not likely to be much rain, and if it does come it will be brief and light. The wind will be around until about Sunday, then ease off.

Windy and Wild
The wind has been on the increase and is looking to be around for a few days. This has caused the surf to be pretty messy. It is still OK to learn to surf in the corner at Kaw Kaweng though. It has been pretty dry but Sat and Sunday will probably have some rain. Great kite and windsurfing.

Weather for Lanta June
Last week there were a few days where we had some regular showers come through. I think this lasted about 2 or 3 days. For the last 2 days the weather has been amazing. The surf swell has dropped but here is a little 1 foot slider, and it is supposed to increase again by next week. I dont mind I need to get some flat water paddling in and get the fitness back up again.
I am amazed that there are so few people here. The weather has been better than Nov, Dec weather.

Shower at night - sunnys days
The conditions have continued to be good. The last 3 days we have had rain at night and then in the morning it is sunny and nice. The first of the surfing swell has arrived. Friday evening was a clean 1-1.5 foot and now this morning it is 2 foot and going to build once the tide goes out a bit. Looks like we are going to get a good week of surf from now. Yeha. The photo is before the swell - nice lines.

Perfect
The weather the last few days has been perfect. Clear blue skies, flat water and hot. Lanta is definitely in low season now. Klong Dao beach is almost deserted. It is a really peaceful time of year. It is a shame there are not more people around to appreciate the island now.
The full moon has seen big tides also. Rainfall on Lanta has been statistically much lower than all the other local regions, fromm 200 mm less than Phuket and Krabi. We seem to always get better weather here!

Flooding in the South - Lanta Ok
The last few days have seen very large low pressure systems dumping lots of rain and high winds all over the south of Thailand. It has been the East coast that has been affected the most but Krabi, and Ao Nang have also had flooding. With landsides in some areas of Krabi. The road to the airport was affected but is open. All access to Lanta is fine from Krabi, and Krabi Airport. We have escaped the worst of it fortunately. Another storm is heading this way this afternoon though. But hopefully will be the last of it.

Unusually wet and cool
Well I don't know what has happened with the weather here but it is still wet/ overcast and cool for this time of year. This afternoon to tonight we are expecting wind and wave conditions to pick up with the swell increasing to 5 foot + over the next few days. Looks like it will make great surfing but the sunlovers are not approving! Perhaps someone should do spray tans.

Rainy the next few days
The weather set in last night with steady rain through until this morning. It is still raining lightly but looks like it might clear for the day and then set in again tonight. It is forecast to rain over the next few evenings and will be overcast with some showers during the day.
The ocean swell is building up though. We had some 1 foot waves yesterday and from Saturday there is going to be at least a couple of days of surfing. Yeha. Thats about the only fun thing to do when it is wet.

Afternoon thunderstorms
It seems for the last week that we have great morning weather - clear, sunny and hot. Following this by the afternoon the wind has been changing to onshore with a build up of cloud over the land. This and then accumulated to become an afternoon thundershower by 4-5pm. Then clearing to be fine for the rest of the evening.

Lanta Weather this week
After the massive full moon we have had our biggest tides in months today. There is more push in the swell also with waves forecast for the weekend along with rain. We have experienced thunder showers almost every afternoon this week. But the days have been hot and mostly sunny.
